REMEX – the twen in the REMONDIS family

Do you remember exactly what you were doing 20 years ago? In 2005, Angela Merkel became German chancellor, YouTube and Google Maps were launched, and the Kyoto Protocol came into force, the first binding international climate agreement in which countries committed themselves legally to reducing greenhouse gases.

The start in the REMONDIS family

2005 also marks the year in which REMEX became part of REMONDIS. Small became big – and that didn’t just apply to the logo remex. For two decades, REMEX has been the group’s expert when it comes to processing mineral waste. The company is one of several dozen specialist companies that REMONDIS has brought together under its roof with operations in the fields of recycling, services, and water.

SINCE 2005

Two decades of shared success and a strong foundation for the future

Strategic expansion

Over the past two decades, REMEX has grown primarily through investments in new business areas. In 2012, the company began expanding its business activities abroad. And with good reason. Mineral waste is considered the largest waste stream worldwide. In Germany and globally, it accounts for more than 50 % of total waste generated. Recycling this waste is possible and is now in many countries also required by law. After all, this conserves natural resources and closes material cycles.

Closing mineral material cycles is one of the most important pillars of resource conservation – worldwide.

Impressive increase in volume

Within the last 20 years, the amount that REMEX returns to the material cycle each year has almost quadrupled. Whereas there were 25 sites then, there are now 65. Almost four times as many employees now ensure that more and more secondary construction materials can be made available to the market. The fact that this goes hand in hand with economic success is reflected in the current turnover. Since becoming part of REMONDIS, this has increased almost ninefold.

Future opportunities and global significance

The Circularity Gap Report from 2022 estimates the unused recycling potential of mineral waste at 3.5 gigatons worldwide. Global demand for recycling solutions that make high-quality use of these material flows is on the rise. With its broad thematic and geographical positioning, REMEX is well equipped for further growth and will continue to be a solid part of the REMONDIS Group in the future.

REMEX is growing and is ideally positioned to exploit the global recycling potential of mineral waste.
