Recent impressions from Singapore
The REMEX Minerals Singapore Pte. Ltd. plant went into operation in 2015, just one year after the company was founded. The material throughput at this site is around 0.5 million tonnes of bottom ash from the city-state’s five waste incineration plants. The processing plant removes impurities and recovers valuable metals. Due to the high moisture content of the ash, these metals are contaminated with mineral deposits. Since 2021, REMEX has had its own metal processing plant in Singapore. It is used to dry and clean the scrap iron. Visitor delegations from Australia and Thailand have been on site in recent months to view the plant. Drone photos taken this year show the entire site for the first time, including the new hall on the adjacent site. The images impressively demonstrate how the limited space of less than 2 hectares is currently being used to ensure smooth plant operation.
“We are seeing growing international interest in our technical solutions, with representatives from Asian countries in particular making increasingly frequent enquiries. One of the visitor groups I recently hosted in Singapore came from Thailand. There, too, there is a desire to make greater use of the materials contained in municipal waste.”

Official Malaysian visit to Germany
Muhamad Zaini Hasnan from Malaysia took ten days to visit REMEX. As Deputy Director of Technology at the Malaysian Ministry of Local Government, he and his 15-strong team are responsible for the nation’s waste management system. The visit included several incinerator bottom ash processing plants in Düsseldorf, Oberhausen and Lünen. Dolphin Metal Separation B.V. in the Netherlands offered the opportunity to gain insights into our options for treating the metals recovered from ash. Our guest was enthusiastic about the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through the use of recycled metals. Landfills and modern landfill construction were the focus in Erftstadt and Kerpen. Things also got concrete in Bottrop, where the technical applications of secondary aggregates on construction sites were explained: the local ski hall is secured using incinerator bottom ash. Treating waste to prevent the emission of climate-damaging methane at landfills and recycling ash to enable the reuse of the resources it contains: these findings form the basis for a planned follow-up meeting with Muhamad in Singapore.

Presence in China
At the beginning of 2023, REMEX GmbH moved into its first office in China. Xindi Wang is head of the new office in Shenzhen. The materials scientist from RWTH Aachen University began his career with us in Düsseldorf. After intensive training, he now has extensive knowledge of our activities and expertise and can now communicate this in his home country. With the new office, REMEX aims to expand its geographical growth in Asia beyond its current locations in Singapore and Malaysia and tap into the potential for transferring its recycling solutions to the Chinese market.
Whether in Singapore, Malaysia or China – international interest in REMEX technologies is growing. With targeted knowledge transfer and local activities, REMEX is helping to promote sustainable recycling solutions worldwide. Further information on our international projects can be found on our website international.remex.de
