Trade associations BDE and BMKE step up their cooperation

The Federal Association for the Mineral Recycling and Sustainable Waste Management (BMKE), which was formed at the start of the year following a merging of IGAM and BRB, has now signed a cooperation agreement with the BDE – Federal Association of the German Waste Management, Water and Recycling Industries – thereby laying the foundations for closer collaboration..

IIn the joint press release, BDE President Matthias Harms highlights the benefits of the two associations presenting a united front and emphasises: “In the mineral sector too, the circular economy is a key component of raw material security and a vital driver in the increasing refurbishment and renewal of the building stock and infrastructure.”

On behalf of the BMKE, Chairman of the Executive Board Michael Stoll explains the significance of the cooperation in an international context: “With this step, we are building on the proven cooperation at European level that already exists through our umbrella organisations, the Fédération Internationale du Recyclage FIR and the European Waste Management Association FEAD.”

According to the BDE and BMKE, the priority areas of work include the current consultations on end-of-waste criteria for construction and demolition waste, as well as the impact of REACH on recycled aggregates. Furthermore, the political agenda includes the amendment of the Ordinance on Substitute Building Materials, developments in the Construction Products Regulation and the drafting of the Landfill BREF.
