The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has reaffirmed its commitment to greater resource conservation and closing material cycles in the construction industry: the sectoral agreement on gravel and sand between the state government and the Association of the Construction and Raw Materials Industry (vero) is intended to promote the reuse of mineral building materials and, thereby, sustainable construction.
Both the Ministry of Construction, led by Mona Neubaur, and the Ministry of the Environment, headed by Oliver Krischer, are backing the initiative on behalf of the state. In the long term, it is intended to contribute to an expansion of annual federal processing capacities to five million tonnes and to increased use of recycled building materials. The focus is on removing regulatory barriers and establishing a joint centre of excellence called KR.Bau.NRW.
Already in late September, both ministers had announced – as part of the publication of the NRW Circular Economy Strategy – their intention to make the use of recycled building materials the norm. more
