Modern business park near Frankfurt am Main
A current example is the Fliegerhorst Langendiebach Business Park, situated in the municipalities of Erlensee and Bruchköbel, approximately 25 km east of the economically vibrant Frankfurt am Main metropolitan region and strategically located on the A66 motorway. The site of the former military airfield has developed into a modern business park in recent years. On a plot within the site, where the logistics company DHL Freight and a number of small and medium-sized enterprises have already established themselves, development work is currently underway on a further section of the site. As part of the site preparation, extensive earthworks and geotechnical works are being carried out – standard procedures in site development.
Recycled aggregates for a frost-resistant sub-base
Instead of using natural materials, the client for this construction project opted for recycled aggregates. Between June and July 2026, REMEX supplied a total of 32,000 tonnes of REMEXIT frost-protection layer material from its Kelsterbach plant. The recycled construction material ensures a load-bearing and frost-resistant sub-base, thereby laying an important foundation for the further development of the site.
Regulated use
Recycled aggregates are produced from processed mineral construction and demolition waste (CDW), such as soil and building rubble, and are available in various grain sizes. They are classified as secondary construction materials, the use of which is regulated in Germany by the Secondary Aggregates Directive. Their areas of application include earthworks and civil engineering works, as well as base courses and frost protection layers in road construction.
Framework conditions fulfilled
Given the origin of the waste, the hydrogeological conditions at the installation site are crucial for the potential use of recycled building materials. These include factors such as the site’s location in relation to water protection zones and distances from groundwater. Provided the water management criteria are met, there is nothing to stand in the way of this sustainable choice of material. Such is the case with the recent development of the new section of the business park.
